0-3 Window

The brain's architecture rapidly forms during the first three years of life. While we continue to learn, the science is clear. We can never go back and restructure the foundation. That window of opportunity is gone.

Inside the human brain, an astonishing 700 synapses are formed every second in the early years, a rate that will never again be matched, making 0-3 years the optimal time to intervene.

During this critical window, children need quality early environments that promote their social, emotional and cognitive development. There are 28,613 Nebraska children age 0-3 at risk of failing in school and in life. As a state we are only reaching 8% of them with quality early environments.

By the time a child is three years old, the architecture of the brain, the foundation for all future learning, has been built.
